Poets are some of our frontline support for mental health in our communities. As performers they are often called to re-live trauma every time they perform in order to provide healing for an audience. Our poets tackle subjects including sexual abuse, suicidal ideation, domestic violence, racism, depression, anxiety, and a list of other trauma to help our communities face and overcome them, and they need support to do this impactful healing work.
We have partnered with the Sacramento Native American Health Center and a building network of individual therapists, counselors, and holistic health practitioners to provide low-cost support services to the poets working to support our communities.
In addition our friends at SNAHC have offered to help us host Medi-Cal enrollment especially for poets to make sure that all of our Sacramento Poetry family have access to healthcare to support them physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Any interested therapists or holistic health practitioners willing to offer their services for a discounted, low-cost, or sliding scale rate for Sacramento’s poets please contact us. <3
